Take a picnic lunch or stop by one of several sandwich shops in the area to pick up lunch, and picnic under the shade trees of Acacia Park while the kids run and play at the jungle gym or splash and soak at the fountain. Subway, Jimmy Johns, OPB&J, and the Pita Pit are all within a few blocks of the fountain. One of the fun memories of being a kid is the discovery of water (swimming pool or otherwise). In this particular case I am referring to water fountains often found in downtown areas that serve as works of art, beautification and of course something incredibly fun for kids to play in. One such example in Colorado Springs is the now famous, "Uncle Wilber Fountain". The Uncle Wilber Fountain is a center-piece of Acacia Park in downtown Colorado Springs. Every Memorial Day weekend Uncle Wilber wakes up from his deep winter sleep to play us musical tunes from his tuba while water squirts and splashes children below. A really great time to be had by the whole family.
