365 Things to Do in Colorado Springs ~ Day 50 People Watching

Ok, this post is more for the tourists than the locals in Colorado Springs, but could be for the locals if they wanted. With some extensive travel this summer, I’ve found the best people watching place in all of Colorado Springs. It’s at the Colorado Springs Airport where thousands fly in and out every day.

Saddle up to the Pikes Peak Lounge and Bar, order a drink and find a seat near a window to people watch or gaze out at Pikes Peak near the glass windows on the other side of the bar. Does this sound insane? Insanely fun! After flying out of COS recently, I was amazed at how easily entertained I was by simply sitting and watching others.

Colorado Springs Airport is where you will see many Fort Carson soliders returning after service, if not at Fort Carson directly. It’s emotional to watch a service person walking towards the open waiting room with signs and family and friends gathered awaiting that moment they finally see their loved one again. I tear up every time and want to clap or hug them myself. Too cheesey for you?

Then let’s talk about the American people as a whole. At COS you will see people of different generations, the way they handle security, the way people travel, the size and stature of people, the way they walk, the way they help or don’t help others when someone has dropped something. You will see what others eat, drink, how often they talk on the cell phone, play games, listen to music, or any other anthropological examination you would like to watch. It is an interesting cross-section of American people of the low-middle class to the wealthy. If you sit long enough you can take part in someone else’s drama, or at least eavesdrop enough to know when it’s time to call the tab and pay up.
