After your First Friday Art Walk in Old Colorado City, you may feel inspired to pick up a paint brush and find out what you can do with an art brush. There are several different ways to do this. One, you can decide on something meaningful to you (nature, landscape, flower, scene, etc) and head out to paint your own piece of artwork. Art is like love, in that it is in the eye of the beholder. It doesn’t have to be good, you just have to like it. If you are the "do it yourself" kind of person, here is what you will need: paint – the creativity starts here in choosing what type of paint. Acrylics are cheap and most wash out of clothing if caught fast enough, oils are a little more expensive, but add a little texture to paintings, and watercolors are the least expensive of all, but may take several layers to capture what you are trying to paint. Next you will need brushes, a canvas, water or thinner depending on your paint, and maybe an easel and chair. The last are up to you. Think of something you would like to paint. A tree and water, a waterfall, Garden of the Gods, or Pikes Peak has lent inspiration to millions. Find a spot and start painting! Once you’ve purchased the materials, you can continue to have this fun hobby for the expensive of a canvas! Hobby Lobby and Michaels offer great deals on canvases often, so keep your eyes and ears open. Another new option is to head downtown Colorado Springs to Paint it! Splash. Paint it! Splash is a new business located at 115 N. Tejon (across from Old Chicago) where you can take a group or go join one and paint something together. Each person leaves with their own work of art but in this case all are fully supported by a resident Artist who walks the group through each step and how to paint. With beer, wine & Izzy's on hand it is a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends or family and your creative side. When you feel like your painting is complete, take it home and hang it up for all to admire! Now you’ve brought in a focal piece or a supporting piece to your house as well.
