This year has brought real and demonstrable meaning to Memorial Day. Last week I was at a closing where the buyer was a political refugee in the United States from another country. Listening to his story I said I did know whether to cheer or cry as I listed to him speak. Today for Memorial Day I am thinking about this person and the true experience he has had with Democracy and how much this means to him and for him.
Standing outside washing my dog today I was listening to the Will Rogers Shrine play about 10-15 minutes of songs honoring our Memorial Day. The songs playing in the background were another reminder of how much we just naturally take for granted. What a beautiful country we have thanks to all who have chosen (or been drafted in years past) to serve the United States of America.
Ranger soldiers and their love for country music wrote a tribute song to honor the true meaning of Memorial Day:
The power of the lyrics and the video bring to life what is sacrificed sometimes for a day, month, year or forever more.
